Taylor Swift has broken several records, won a multitude of awards, and now, she’s reportedly helping local economies with her Eras Tour.
Officials with the Philadelphia Federal Reserve credited Swift’s concerts for the increase in hotel bookings.
“Despite the slowing recovery in tourism in the region overall, one contact highlighted that May was the strongest month for hotel revenue in Philadelphia since the onset of the pandemic, in large part due to an influx of guests for the Taylor Swift concerts in the city,” it said.
Swift’s tour also had an impact on Chicago’s economy, Jason Lesniewicz from Choose Chicago told KNX In Depth.
“I can tell you that we set all-time hotel records of the weekend that she played three nights here in Chicago now,” he said. “So over the Friday and Saturday nights, the hotel revenue was $39 million. That was an all-time record and 20.9% higher than the same period last year. So you can definitely feel the impact and those are just some of the metrics we track when we're looking at the impact of large events or conventions.”
So, is Taylor Swift the only artist who is able to accomplish this? Seth Schachner, former Sony Music executive and current Managing Director of Strat America, said it takes a “superstar tier” to have an impact like this.
“There is a certain stratum of superstar artists that can do this, and I think right now, for a bunch of reasons, she's probably the world's shining example of it,” he said.
Lesniewicz told KNX In Depth that with Beyoncé’s concert happening this upcoming weekend, they’re excited to see the impact her concert will have on the city.
