LOS ANGELES (KNX) – President Joe Biden’s son Hunter is expected to plead guilty to federal charges including two tax misdemeanors, Delaware court documents revealed on Tuesday. He also struck a deal with the Department of Justice on a charge linked to illegal possession of a gun.
U.S. Attorney David Weiss launched the investigation into Hunter Biden in 2018 under the Trump administration. It focused Biden’s work as a board member for Burisma, as well as any investment endeavors in China, according to ABC News.
Jessica Levinson, a law professor at Loyola Marymount University, told LA’s Morning News that although this may wrap up the legal investigation against Hunter Biden, it doesn’t end the political investigation.
“We know that the House Republicans have and will continue to hold hearings into Hunter Biden and his business dealings and there's no indication that that will slow down,” she said.
As for how this could play out in the 2024 presidential election, Levinson said she doesn’t think this will change the minds of anyone who is familiar with the case.
“In the end, I think, the people who believe there's more, there will not be satisfied and the people who believe there was something there and this seems about fair will continue to feel that way after we expect that there will be an arraignment and a federal judge will, in fact, we believe bless this plea deal,” she said.
Following the announcement, the White House the following statement, “The President and First Lady love their son and support him as he continues to rebuild his life. We will have no further comment.”
Former President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social regarding the plea deal, “The corrupt Biden DOJ just cleared up hundreds of years of criminal liability by giving Hunter Biden a mere ‘traffic ticket.’ Our system is BROKEN.”
