Latest iPhone update prevents ‘rare bug’ that brings back deleted photos from years ago

iPhone users will want to open up the settings app when they next get a chance, as Apple has released an update for a “rare bug” that could cause deleted photos to pop back up on some iPhones.

Apple’s latest edition of its operating system, iOS 17.5.1, was recently released and contains “important bug fixes,” according to the company.

The new version of iOS came after Apple found a bizarre glitch that caused some users’ photos to resurface even if they had been deleted years ago.

“This update provides important bug fixes and addresses a rare issue where photos that experienced database corruption could reappear in the Photos library even if they were deleted,” Apple says in the update’s description.

iPhones are supposed to automatically delete images after they spend 30 days in the Photos app’s “Recently Deleted” folder.

But for some reason, iOS 17.5 caused several users to have their images and videos they deleted months and years ago pop back up.

Apple has not yet publicly addressed the issue at this time, but it is rectifying the issue with its latest iOS update.

Those looking to update their phones will want to open the Settings app, scroll down to General, tap “Software Update,” and download the latest version of iOS. After it’s downloaded, continue to follow the on-screen prompts to install the update.
