Jimmy Buffett’s cause of death revealed

Jimmy Buffett’s cause of death has been revealed in an official obituary for the star posted to his website after he died in his New York home on Friday at 76.

Buffett died from Merkel cell skin cancer, which the obituary shared he was diagnosed with four years ago.

According to the National Cancer Institute, Merkel cell carcinoma “is a very rare disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the skin.”

While receiving cancer treatments, Buffett continued to perform his shows, with his last one taking place during a surprise show in Rhode Island.

Buffett’s death was shared in a statement on social media on Saturday.

“Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music, and dogs,” the statement said.
