A group of volunteers is "masking" Orange County and beyond.

They are our KNX Heroes of Week, who are using their skills, talent and experience to help frontline and essential workers stay safe during the pandemic.

Sewing is common practice for Stephanie Hoang. When she was young, her family moved from Vietnam to the United States. Her mom was seamstress, and as a kid Stephanie would help sew garments alongside her.

"That's how I, as a child... learned how to sew," says the Fountain Valley resident. "To help my mom make a living to survive, when we first came to America."

Fast forward to 2020.

Stephanie is now a financial services agent in Orange County.

When COVID-19 hit Southern California, Stephanie put her job on hold so she could help fellow nurses and other essential workers by sewing face masks.

Word spread like wildfire, and soon the group had inspired other "Masketeers" to join in.

In just two months, the group has sewn and distributed more than 30,000 face masks across Southern California around the nation.

UCI Nurse Jane Wainaina was surprised with a box full of masks for her and her fellow coworkers. She calls Stephanie and her team an inspiration.

"Good hearts. You can't find good people like them, nowhere," says Jane.

Using their skills, talent and experience to help frontline and essential workers stay safe during the pandemic. We are honoring Orange County "Maskateers" Stephanie Hoang, Anh Nguyen and Leo Truong as our KNX Heroes of the Week!
