“Get away from the money,” Caleb Mitchell Rogers allegedly yelled at two casino employees on Feb. 27 of last year, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. “I’ve got a gun. I will shoot you!”

Rogers, now 33, is a member of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department at the time. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, he was first employed by the department in 2015. As of this July, the outlet reported that he was still employed by the department but had been placed on administrative leave without pay.

A spokesperson for the department told the Review-Journal Monday that Rogers was “relieved of duty without police powers.”

The following day, Rogers was sentenced to 12 years in prison for robbing three casinos and stealing an estimated $164,000.

During the robbery last February, Rogers allegedly climbed over a counter and shoved one of the employees to the floor. He then grabbed approximately $78,898 and put it into a bag and fled when employees triggered an alarm.

A security officer tackled him as he ran to the casino’s parking garage. Rogers drew a .357 caliber revolver. He threatened to shoot again before security was able to disarm and arrest him.

“Checking the revolver’s serial number, officers learned that it belonged to the LVMPD,” said the DOJ.

That was the latest of the three robberies Rogers has been accused of. The first was a robbery of approximately $73,810 from a casino in the western part of Las Vegas on Nov. 12, 2021. Rogers also robbed a casino in North Las Vegas of approximately $11,500 on Jan. 6, 2022, the DOJ said.

“In both robberies, he walked directly to the casino’s cashier cage and demanded money from the cashiers,” said the department.

This July, a jury convicted Rogers of three counts of interference with commerce by robbery and one count of brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence following a four-day trial. He was facing up to 20 years in jail, said the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Judge Andrew P. Gordon ruled that Rogers’ 12-year prison sentence would be followed by three years of supervised release.
