Businesses and residents in L.A.’s Little Tokyo are facing uncertainty as they deal with gentrification and urban renewal.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation has designated Little Tokyo as one of America's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places. KNX News’ Chris Sedens spoke to Kristin Fukushima, with the Little Tokyo Community Council, about this issue.

“Fighting for the preservation of our community and culture is something that goes back decades and decades,” she said. “For us, you know, displacement really looks like seeing the disappearance of our small businesses, particularly legacy businesses.”

Fukushima said there’s also the struggle of all the pressures that come with gentrification, speculative development, and the rising value of real estate.

Fukushima said this doesn't bring any guarantees of funding, but it does provide a national platform to spotlight the neighborhood.
