The man accused of threatening Los Angeles City Councilmember Bob Blumenfield was arrested.
Donald Harlan was charged with disrupting a public meeting.
The comment was made on Sept. 8, 2023, during the public comment portion of a city council meeting.
Councilmember Blumenfield told KNX News’ Craig Fiegener that Harlan said to him in front of everyone, “I'm going to kill you and all your Jewish people.”
“And then I said, ‘I'm taking that as a personal threat. Is that what you're saying?’” Blumenfield said. “And then he went off about wanting to kill me and it was about as direct a threat as you get.”
Blumenfield said this behavior continues to happen during city council meetings.
“We have a lot of very horrendous disruptions during council that are racist, anti-Semitic, homophobic,” he said. “Not subtly, but like people using the N-word just to incite behavior that would never be tolerated in a courtroom or almost anywhere else, but somehow because of court rulings and the way that the Brown Act is interpreted, we end up having to tolerate some of this stuff.”
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 20.
