A man was shot and killed by an off-duty LAPD officer in Ontario on Thursday.

It happened at the corner of Euclid Ave. and West Sixth St. around 8:30 p.m.

Ontario Police Cpl. Eliseo Guerrero told City News Service that officers found a man with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead.

The off-duty officer was taken to the hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.

It’s unclear what caused the shooting; however, a witness told KABC-7 it was believed the two men may have been arguing over a minor traffic crash.

While some residents told KNX News' Jon Baird they heard three shots, one man said he heard five.

Another resident said there have been road rage incidents in the neighborhood.

“A lot of people roll off the freeway here [and] argue,” he said, “But yeah, I've seen fights in the church parking lot over there. There used to be a fence so people would fight in that.”

The investigation is ongoing.
