A humanitarian kitchen in Ukraine run by Chef Jośe Andreś was hit by a missile amid the country's ongoing invasion by Russia.

The blast on Saturday destroyed the World Central Kitchen in Kharkiv and wounded four workers.

The Michelin star chef confirmed the news on Twitter.

"The @WCKitchen team and our fellow Ukrainians are unnerved but safe after a missile attack on a restaurant in Kharkiv," Andreś said. "Giving food in the middle of a senseless war is an act of courage, resilience, resistance... and we will continue cooking."

"In the end there were 4 wounded @WCKitchen but all recovering! But many people do not suffer the same fate! This is a slaughter," he continued. "The Russian attacks must stop against civilian buildings and markets and churches and schools etc."

Andreś also expressed gratitude.

"To everyone caring and sending good wishes to the team in Kharkiv, thank you, the injured are fine, and everyone is ready and willing to start cooking in another location," he said. "Many ways to fight, we do it with food!"

Nate Mook, chief executive of World Central Kitchen, shared video from the scene of the missile strike, which showed crumbling buildings, burnt cars and debris everywhere.

"Nobody was killed in the restaurant but we are told that one person was killed in this strike," he said.

Mook described the situation as "absolutely horrific brutality."

"This was a big hit... just a tremendous amount of carnage left behind for no reason," he said. "In this area, there are offices, there are residences. People live here, people work here, people cook here and that's it."

The organization immediately went to work moving all the salvageable food and non-damaged equipment to another kitchen location in Kharkiv so volunteers could continue providing food to people displaced by the war, Mook added.

Andreś said in March that World Central Kitchen was serving 290,000 meals a day, distributed around over 1,000 points in six countries.
