The incident was reported at about 2 a.m. Tuesday, with officers in pursuit of someone accused of reckless driving, according to the Montebello Police Department. The pursuit took the parties into neighboring Pico Rivera, where an officer lost control of a police vehicle and sideswiped a curb, police said.
A witness in the area of Paramount Boulevard and Slauson Avenue in Pico Rivera reported seeing the suspect vehicle parked at the end of a nearby residential street, according to Lt. Brandon Contreras.
"Officers located the vehicle and approached on foot and observed that it was occupied by a solo occupant," Contreras said. "The suspect accelerated the vehicle towards the officers, at which time the officers discharged their firearms in an attempt to stop the vehicle from colliding with them."
No officers were injured. The vehicle fled the scene into Pico Rivera, and it was unknown if the suspect was injured.
Montebello police detectives were handling the investigation.
