Pennsylvania was already a battleground state in the 2024 Presidential election.
Now that current President Joe Biden has decided to not seek re-election, many Democrats are throwing their support behind Vice President Kamala Harris.
Among those high-profile Democrats supporting Harris is Pennsylvania Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro.
In a statement, Shapiro says the best path forward for the Democratic Party is to quickly unite behind Vice President Harris and refocus on winning the presidency.
“I will do everything I can to help elect [Kamala Harris] as the 47th President of the United States,” Shapiro said, in part.
Shapiro is considered to be one of the favorites to join Harris as her Vice-Presidential nominee if she is picked as the Democratic nominee by the 4,000 delegates and over 700 super delegates at the convention next month in Chicago.
On Saturday, Shapiro said he wasn't getting into "hypotheticals" but he is among several Democrats who could join Kamala Harris on the ticket if she wins the nomination. Shapiro, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Maryland Governor Wes Moore are among the names suggested as possible running mates.
In 2016, Trump was the first Republican since Ronald Reagan to win PA. Biden flipped PA to Democrats in 2020.
A recent survey shows a tight race between former President Trump and Harris.

According to the Tribune Review, recent polls have shown Harris slightly outperforming Biden in a hypothetical matchup with Trump.
A Public Policy Polling survey taken July 17-18 shows Harris two points better than Biden among Pennsylvania voters, but still behind Trump 45%-43%.
The same survey shows that by adding Shapiro to a Harris ticket, Pennsylvania voters would support the Democratic duo over Trump and his running mate, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, 47%-46%.
