Iconic ‘90s actor Pauly Shore is set to portray fitness guru Richard Simmons.
Shore plays Simmons in a new short film called “The Court Jester,” which will premiere on Jan. 19 in Park City, Utah. It will release on YouTube later that evening.
The short film is in anticipation of a full-length biopic that is in development at the Wolper Organization, according to TODAY.
“The Court Jester” was written and directed by Jake Lewis. In the film’s teaser, Shore can be seen wearing Simmons’ iconic short shorts and sparkly top. His performance in the clip showcases the positivity and tenderness Simmons brought to his videos.
“What’s my first rule?” Shore’s Simmons asks a crew member on a TV set during the trailer. “Like yourself. Your weight doesn’t matter. If you like yourself, you’re going to be fine.”
"Simmons represented mental health, getting people in shape and being his authentic silly self! Whenever he was on TV you could never take your eyes off of him and he brought such a joy to his appearances that represented nothing but a good time," Shore said in a statement.
Shore told EW he came to the idea of playing Simmons when it was pointed out to him by fans online how much he resembled the work out star.
“The Court Jester” will be available on YouTube Jan. 19.
