The Peanuts holiday specials will not be airing on terrestrial television this year.
PBS announced on Twitter that it does not have the rights to broadcast the Peanuts specials, including "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown," "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" and "A Charlie Brown Christmas."
"Regretfully, PBS does not have the rights to distribute the Peanuts specials this year. We'll all have to watch for the Great Pumpkin in a different pumpkin patch this Halloween," PBS Kids tweeted on September 29.
If your holidays wouldn't be complete without the Peanuts classics, which have aired on TV every year for decades -- don't worry. Apple TV+ is here to save the day.
Fans of Charlie Brown and the gang will have to tune in to Apple TV+ to participate in their yearly tradition.
Apple purchased the exclusive rights to the Peanuts characters in 2020, but allowed PBS to air the holiday specials on TV for the past two years. This year, things are different; the specials will exclusively be available to watch on the streaming service.
If you're not an Apple TV+ subscriber, don't be spooked. Apple has confirmed that even non-paying members will be able to watch the specials this year.
While subscribers have unlimited access to the holiday specials, the window to watch for non-paying members is limited.
• "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" will be available to stream for free October 28 through October 31.
• "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" will be available to stream November 23 through November 27.
• "A Charlie Brown Christmas" will be available to stream December 22 through December 25.
To watch the specials, go to tv.apple.com or download the Apple TV app. Search for the special you want to watch and hit play during the free streaming window.
