PHOTOS: LAPD seeks tips after Rite Aid employee shot to death over 2 cases of beer

The Los Angeles Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying two men accused of murdering a man in a Glassell Park business.

Two suspects entered a Rite Aid in the 4000 block of Eagle Rock Boulevard where 36-year-old Miguel Penaloza was working around 8:40 p.m. on July 15.

According to the police, the two suspects walked to the store’s beer display, took a case of beer each and tried to leave without paying. Penaloza confronted the two men, which resulted in a brief struggle over the beer.

One suspect brandished a firearm before shooting and killing Penaloza. The suspects fled the scene through the parking lot.

The police describe the first suspect as a male Hispanic between 18 and 20 years old, approximately 5 feet 6 inches and weighs 200 pounds. He was dressed in a gray hooded sweatshirt, black shorts and black shoes with white trim.

The second suspect is described as a male Hispanic between 18 and 20 years old, approximately 5 feet 8 inches and weighs 145 pounds. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a large square print on the back, tan or grey pants and black shoes.
