Simi Valley police shoot woman believed to be armed with a knife

A woman was shot and wounded Tuesday night in Simi Valley, after she allegedly brandished a knife at police officers.

Police were called around 7:45 p.m. to the 7-Eleven store at 5820 E. Los Angeles Avenue for reports of a fight between two women, SVPD said in a statement, adding that dispatchers had warned the officers that at least one of the women was armed with a knife.

Officers said they were able to reach one of the women in the 1800 block of Yosemite Avenue, an area surrounded by homes and apartments.

The woman was shot after she allegedly attempted to attack one of the officers with a knife. She was given first aid and taken to a nearby hospital to be treated.

So far, police have only said that the woman is a 31-year-old Simi Valley Resident. Her name has not been released.
