A 5.1 magnitude earthquake has just hit Southern California as the state braces for Tropical Storm Hilary, which is causing heavy rain and flooding across the southern parts of the state.

According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter for the quake was Ojai, between Santa Barbara and Ventura.

The shake was felt throughout Los Angeles and the cities surrounding communities, according to resident reports from the USGS.

The agency also reported that at least two aftershocks hit after the initial quake, both measuring 3.1 and 3.6.

“At 2:41PM, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake occurred Southeast of Ojai on the Sisar fault. Numerous additional aftershocks have and will continue to occur. There are no immediate reports of damage at this time,” the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office shared on X.
