LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A man who led police on a chase in an allegedly stolen SUV on canyon roads in the Agoura Hills area today surrendered to authorities following a brief standoff.

The chase began about 10 a.m., when Los Angeles Police Department officers in the Topanga Area station's jurisdiction tried to stop the vehicle, which had been reported stolen, in the 24300 block of Deer Lick Drive, according to the LAPD.

The motorist kept going, ending up on a winding mountain road . At one point during the chase, the motorist stopped and appeared to start running off the road into the brush, but he changed his mind, scrambling back into the vehicle and driving off again. He followed the road into a residential driveway, where he came to a stop.

Officers in a helicopter monitored the progress of the SUV, and officers on the ground headed off the vehicle at the bottom of the driveway, leading to a brief standoff that ended about 10:30 a.m. when the suspect surrendered.

His name was not immediately available.
