On April 30, Riverside County Animal Services, California Highway Patrol and Riverside County Sheriff’s Department received multiple calls regarding an injured burrow. The burrow was found in the Rece Canyon area.

The burrow was taken to the SoCAL Equine Hospital in Norco where the lifes; however, officials said lifesaving measures were unsuccessful.
“This is highly disturbing that someone would purposely harm a defenseless animal and cause its death,” Animal Services Director Erin Gettis said.
“We’re certain that someone willfully shot this burro with the intent in killing it,” Commander Josh Sisler said. “The burro was struck in a very vulnerable area and its force was so strong it punctured through to the opposite side of the burro. It’s shameless to maim an innocent animal and cause its demise. We’re hopeful we can find the person responsible for this heinous act.”
The arrow was given to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department where investigators are hoping to find fingerprint evidence or any other information.
Riverside County Animal Services said an anonymous person pledged $1,000 for “the successful conviction" of whoever shot the animal.
