A wildfire that erupted in Cabazon during a Santa Ana windstorm, scorching 65 acres and briefly threatening homes, was fully contained Monday.

The "Elm Fire" broke out at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the 51000 block of Ida Avenue, near Peach Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

As of 11:55 a.m. Monday, the blaze was declared 100% contained, and most of the crews assigned to the brusher over the weekend were released back to their stations, according to officials at the scene.

During the early hours of the blaze, stiff northeasterly winds pushed it in the direction of a residences east of Magnolia Avenue, west of Almond Street and south of Esperanza Avenue, prompting an evacuation warning that lasted until 2:30 p.m. Saturday, when the forward rate of spread was halted.

No property damage was reported by county fire officials.

The winds died down Saturday afternoon.

At the height of the wildfire, an estimated 250 personnel from the county, Morongo Reservation Fire Department, Idyllwild Fire Protection District and other agencies were working to establish containment lines, supported by five Cal Fire air tankers and three water-dropping helicopters.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
