As some of you might recall, before we entered 2024, Dua Lipa and Seth Meyers entered a New York City bar for another boozy segment of Day Drinking. As always, things went hilariously well, that is until Dua disappeared like Houdini — and now we know why.

During her appearance on Tuesday's episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, Dua divulged that when she dipped out, she ended up falling asleep on the bar’s bathroom floor before their day of drinking even concluded.
For those who are like — Huh? At the end of the day drinking segment, which aired on Late Night last month, Lipa who declared she could "barely see straight,” ended up needing “a few minutes,” and then ultimately never returned. To explain the abrupt ending without the usual segment conclusion a message appeared on the screen, explaining that Meyers was told Lipa needed “a few minutes more,” then Dua had to go home.
As Meyers went on to explain on Tuesday night’s show, his production team offers all participants of in the day drinking segments the option to switch from shots of alcohol to water halfway through filming. Dua, however, decided she wanted to stick to liquor.
"It's not something I like to brag about, but I think I'm a good drinker," Lipa said, ”I just wasn't prepared for what was waiting for me... I was smoking cigarettes at the time,” the singer admitted, quickly adding “I’ve stopped, I’ve quit, guys” since then. So the plan, “I was like, ‘Alright, I’m just going to have a cigarette. That will sort me out.’” But as it turned out, after she and Seth drank several shots of "gin, vodka, rum, tequila" within about 45 minutes of filming, Dua needed some slumber more than a cig.
Feeling a bit dizzy after her smoke break, "I was like, ‘I’m just gonna pop to the bathroom. I'm sure I'm gonna be completely fine,’" Lipa said. "And I fall asleep right there.”
Stating the obvious about pretty much any bar in the history of bars, Meyers noted that the bathroom didn't look like a great place to sleep. But, also clearly very obvious, in that moment, Lipa didn't care. “It wasn’t a luxury bedroom, but for some reason, everything felt comfortable. I was very cozy.”
It wasn't until later in the day that Lipa gathered her memories and realized exactly what happened. “The only thing I remember after that point is the fact that I woke up in my bed," she explained. "I just have this vision of my assistant, she saved my life, but all I heard was her telling my security, ‘John, get the wheelchair!’ I was full rag doll. I don’t remember a thing. It was amazing, and I woke up like two hours later. I was like, 'What happened?’"
Recalling the abrupt ending to the day, Seth said, "People kept coming up and being like, 'Dua just needs five more minutes.' I'm like, 'Great.' And then someone was like, 'She just needs 10 more minutes,'" Meyers added. "I'm like, 'You bet. Dua's gonna be great! And then they were like, 'Hey, uh, she's gone.' And I'm like, 'What!?’”
Lipa and Meyers revealed they eventually had a FaceTime call to debrief on the experience, and the SNL alum, feeling the repercussions himself, was also already in bed.
