Officials gathered in downtown Wichita Wednesday morning for the groundbreaking ceremony for the new baseball stadium.
The only thing currently on the empty space at Maple & McLean is a sewer line, running about where the old third-base line was located in the now-demolished Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. A new line needs to be installed before the old one can be removed; that's the first part of construction.
By early March of this year, the seating bowl and field dimensions will begin to take shape with the pouring of concrete. Steel construction will begin in June, and the green grass of the baseball diamond by September/October.
