Wednesday marked Day 12 of the 85th National Baseball Congress World Series at Eck Stadium on the Wichita State campus. The day started with a dozen teams remaining in the tournament, and four games with elimination on the line.

Three of the games were blowouts: the Seattle Studs defeated the Colorado Cyclones 15-0, followed by a 9-1 win by the Kansas Cannons over the San Diego Waves. The late game ended at 1:15 a.m. Thursday, as the San Diego Stars beat the Great Bend Bat Cats 6-1.

The only close game came in the prime-time slot, as the Derby Twins slipped past the Haysville Aviators 7-6. Derby became the only team from the First Week of the tournament to make it to the quarterfinals; the Twins have won 7 of their 8 games so far in the World Series.

Eight teams now remain as the quarterfinals take place on Thursday:

1:00 p.m. -- Lonestar Baseball Club (TX) vs. Kansas Cannons

3:30 p.m. -- Fairbanks (AK) Goldpanners vs. San Diego Stars

7:00 p.m. -- Cheney Diamond Dawgs vs. Derby Twins

9:30 p.m. -- Santa Barbara Foresters vs. Seattle Studs
