
Wilhoit hit .515 during the streak. Later that year in 1919, Wilhoit batted .333 for the Boston Red Sox, playing in the outfield along with 24-year-old Babe Ruth.
The only two serious threats to Wilhoit’s record in later years each came from Joe DiMaggio, who fashioned a 61-game hitting streak as a San Francisco Seals rookie in 1933, and a 56-game streak while with the New York Yankees in 1941.
