New York (WFAN/WGR 550) - As confirmed by an MRI on Tuesday, New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers has suffered a complete tear of his left Achilles and is slated to miss the rest of the 2023 season.

For a while, Monday night's miraculous win over the Buffalo Bills on Xavier Gipson’s 65-yard punt return for a touchdown might have helped Jets fans briefly forget about the sight of Rodgers being carted off the field just four snaps into his hyped New York tenure.

However, head coach Robert Saleh delivered the sobering news of Rodgers' Achilles injury just after the Jets' victory. All the team was waiting on was the MRI on Tuesday to confirm the team's worst fears.

Rodgers, 39, committed to the Jets for more than one season, even hinting it could be as much as a three-year commitment. At his age, and considering that the future Hall of Famer was leaning “90%” towards retirement at one point in the offseason, it is unclear how the injury will impact his future plans.

As for the short-term, the Jets will have to decide whether they will try again with Zach Wilson, or call in an available veteran to try and salvage a season that began with such promise before Rodgers went down.

All signs, at this point, are leaning towards sticking with the former second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft under center.
