The Wichita State alumni team is headed back to The Basketball Tournament with a target on its back.
The AfterShocks officially announced their return to TBT this summer as they look to defend the championship they won in 2025. The team, made up primarily of former Wichita State players, will compete in the now $2 million winner-take-all event.
This year’s tournament will feature a new format. TBT officials announced the field will be divided into regional pods, with teams competing closer to home during the early rounds. Wichita will once again serve as one of the host sites.
The AfterShocks captured their first TBT title last summer, energizing Wichita State fans and bringing national attention back to Koch Arena. Several former Shockers are expected to return to the roster, though the full lineup has not yet been finalized.
Tournament organizers said the updated structure is designed to reduce travel and create stronger regional rivalries while maintaining the event’s single-elimination format.
TBT games are scheduled to begin in July, with the championship game set for early August.
