The Chicago Bears jumped to an early lead against the Kansas City Chiefs Thursday night, and went on to win 34-21. Both teams sat nearly all of their starters in a game briefly halted after the first play of the second half, when Chicago cornerback Douglas Coleman III made a tackle along the Kansas City sideline and lay motionless on the ground. He was tended to by doctors as players from both teams took a knee, and eventually was immobilized on a stretcher and driven out of Arrowhead Stadium.

Carson Steele a impressive night for the Chiefs. The undrafted rookie from UCLA rushed four times for 50 yards, including a 31-yard tackle-breaking run to set up his own TD plunge.

"We had some good snaps. The best part is we got all the guys in there to have an opportunity to play,  and put it on tape where Brett (General Manager Brett Veach) can evaluate it tomorrow and for the next couple of weeks," said Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid. "And the fans... I was shocked when I walked out there.  It was the 3rd preseason game, none of the starters are out there.  And they were on fire, it was great to see everyone out there."

The Chiefs open the season Sept. 5 against Baltimore.

Shortly before kickoff, the Chiefs extended the contract of offensive lineman Creed Humphrey.  It is a reportedly a four-year, $72 million extension, as was reported to The Associated Press. That would make it the largest contract for a center in NFL history.
