Going into Sunday's feature matchup, the Kansas City Chiefs were still looking for their first win of the young season. The Chiefs were in New York for a matchup with the also winless New York Giants.
Solid defense and poor offense was the name of the game in the first half. Chiefs went to the locker room having only managed to score 9 points on 3 FGs. Which could have been 4, except for another FG miss by Chiefs K Harrison Butker who would also miss an extra point in the second half. But that was enough for a 9-6 lead for KC at the half, holding NY to a single touchdown and blocking the extra point attempt.
And the Chiefs offense started coming together, getting into the end zone once in the 3rd and once in the 4th. Chiefs WR Tyquan Thornton making some big catches, including one for a TD in the 3rd. Thornton ended his night with 5 receptions for 71 yds. and a touchdown. And a Mahomes to Thornton 33-yard connection set up Kareem Hunt to punch it in from the 1 in the 4th.
Final score 22-9 Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes was 22 for 37 with 224 yds. Next up for Kansas City, a home matchup with Baltimore Sunday afternoon.
