Would you risk your life for a par? Jordan Spieth almost did.

Things got dicey for Spieth Saturday at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in California. Spieth’s tee shot on the Par-4 eighth hole didn’t go according to plan, missing the fairway and nearly landing out of bounds. The ball finally rolled to a stop at the edge of a literal cliff, making for one of the most frightening lies you’ll ever see.
If Spieth is afraid of heights, you wouldn’t know it from his fearless approach, which traveled 10 yards past the hole. The 28-year-old completed the up-and-down to save par, living to see another day.
It’s been a pretty good Saturday for Spieth, and not just because he avoided what would have been a 68-foot fall (the equivalent of five stories). He’s six under through 12 holes and -11 for the tournament, putting him four shots back of leader Seamus Power. The world’s 15th-ranked player, Spieth last won at Pebble Beach in 2017, carding a final round 70 (-2) to claim a four-stroke victory over runner-up Kelly Kraft.
