A new study has found that men who wear designer brands with large logos are more likely to be untrustworthy and promiscuous, reported the New York Post.

The study was conducted by the University of Michigan and published in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin.

According to lead researcher Daniel Kruger, an evolutionary psychologist at the university, the study showed men who wear extravagant and ostentatious duds were considered to be more interested in a brief encounter than finding a long-term relationship.

“Rather than being a reliable and honest signal of future paternal investment, displays of luxury goods may sometimes represent investment in mate attraction, which is at the expense of future investment in offspring,” Kruger said, per The Daily Mail.

“Luxury displays featuring exaggerated size, coloration, and sound may indicate relatively greater investment in mating effort.”

To conduct the study, researchers showed participants two images of men in Ralph Lauren polo shirts featuring the brand’s iconic horse and polo player logo. One wore a small emblem, while the other was decked out in a much larger version.

Participants were asked to rate the men in the photos by various factors, such as how often they think he flirts, hits on someone he knows is taken, and if he would be good at taking care of children.

Other questions centered on if they thought the men would be more interested in a fling versus having a committed partner.

According to Kruger, most respondents indicated the man who wore the larger logo would be more interested in a fleeting liaison than becoming a parent or having a serious partner.

More subdued fashions also appeared to signal the man was someone you could bring home to mom.

“Large luxury product logos enhance social competitiveness and mate attraction, whereas small logos enhance perceptions of trustworthiness and reliability,” Kruger added.

So it looks like that guy in dad jeans may just be Mr. Right!
