Anthony Rizzo had been trying everything to snap out of the worst slump of his career, including wearing no batting gloves at the plate.
On Sunday, he decided to also change his walk-up music, and it instantly paid off.
In his first day of using Taylor Swift’s “…Ready for it?” as his walk-up song, Rizzo went 4-for-4 in a Yankees win, including his first home run in over two months, and said the change in tune was another effort to try and snap out of his dreadful skid.
“Yeah, a little Taylor Swift,” Rizzo said. “It's her summer, really. She's helping the economy in every city she goes. Yeah, that was good.”
Rizzo got the silent treatment from his teammates after homering in the third inning on Sunday, though they eventually mobbed him in the dugout, while the song switched from Taylor Swift to something even more fitting as he rounded the bases.
“I don’t know if you guys caught it,” Rizzo told reporters. “But the “Welcome Back” as I was rounding the bases was cool too.”
