Royce Lewis has long been viewed as a potential franchise player. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft was once one of baseball’s top prospects, and when he’s been on the field, he’s flashed elite ability. Over 152 MLB games from 2022 to 2024, Lewis posted a .268/.327/.497 slash line with 33 home runs and 104 RBIs—solid production that hints at even bigger things to come.
His biggest breakout moment came in the 2023 playoffs when he crushed four home runs in just six games, proving he has the talent to perform under the brightest lights. However, injuries and inconsistency have held him back from a true star turn.

“We’re working on keeping the body loose,” Lewis told The Athletic in December. “(I’m) back to being bouncy, electric, and not as tight. Just because I can do a bunch of power doesn’t mean I need to deadlift 600 pounds. I’m kind of going away from that and back to what I used to do.”
Lewis also changed his diet, got married, and revamped his strength and conditioning routine—all with the goal of maintaining his body over a full season. If he stays on the field, his natural talent could take over, and a move to second base could increase his value even more.
