The Dallas Cowboys seem to be all in on their starting quarterback Dak Prescott, and are reportedly heading toward an extension that could make him one of the highest-paid players in the NFL.

Currently, Prescott carries a cap hit of just under $60 million in 2024 - the second highest number in the NFL behind Deshaun Watson.

However, according to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News, Dallas could use a contract maneuver already built into Prescott's deal, that would clear up almost $19 million in cap space for next season.

The move, called an 'automatic conversion,' would convert a portion of Prescott's salary into a signing bonus, which is something the Cowboys have done in each of the past two seasons with the quarterback's contract.

That money would then be stretched out over the next three seasons in the form of the bonus, creating the cap room the Cowboys so desperately need.

As it stands, the Cowboys added in two 'void years' onto the back end of the contract, which Dallas would be able to use to facilitate the move.

Ghelken reports that Dallas would ideally make their decision on whether or not to use the maneuver before the 2024 league year begins on March 13, which could speed up negotiations between Prescott's agent Todd France and the Cowboys.

Until then, Prescott's future still seems secure in Dallas one way or the other.
