Cowboys' Jerry Jones not ready to crown Eagles, 49ers best in NFC with 'the way Dak Prescott is playing'

The Dallas Cowboys will get their second crack at the Philadelphia Eagles this season when the NFC East foe visits North Texas this Sunday. And if the Cowboys want to win their first Super Bowl since 1996, they likely will have to face off against the San Francisco 49ers for the second time - this postseason.

Dallas got blown out by the 49ers 42-10 in Week 5 and lost to the Eagles 28-23 in Week 9, prompting the national pundits to write off the team's chances of being a true contender in the NFC.

Since losing to the 49ers, Dallas has won six of seven, with the only loss coming to Philadelphia, thanks to MVP-worthy performances from Dak Prescott. And that's exactly why Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones believes his team can beat anyone.

“Do I think we have a chance to beat either one of those teams when we play them? Absolutely I do. Absolutely we can. I think we have an outstanding chance here Sunday against Philadelphia. I think it won’t be the same game when we play any of these teams a second time. It never is," Jones said on Shan and RJ on 105.3 The Fan. "But do I expect an NFL war to overexaggerate, yes I do. Because both San Francisco and Philadelphia have got outstanding players. They've got great coaching. But, guys, we do, too.

“I'm not saying it's clear. It may be clear to you, but it's not clear to me," Jones continued when asked about the narrative that the 49ers are on another level than Dallas and Philadelphia after San Francisco whooped the Eagles 42-19 last Sunday. "I will say this, we sure have the opportunity. We’ve got the talent, the way Dak (Prescott) is playing, and we got the opportunity to win any game we play against either of those teams.”

Prescott leads the NFL in touchdown passes with 26 and is fifth in passing yards (3,234). He is tied with 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy for the second-least amount of interceptions thrown (6) among qualifying quarterbacks. Only C.J. Stroud and Lamar Jackson have thrown less interceptions this season (5). And Prescott is narrowly behind Purdy for the lead in QBR (75.6 to 75.4) and completion percentage (70.2 to 70.1).

The Cowboys and Prescott will get their first opportunity to prove the naysayers wrong when they host the Eagles on Sunday night.
