Well-known for his prowess on the links, former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, now one of the highest-paid announcers in sports (he serves as lead color analyst alongside CBS broadcast partner Jim Nantz), will play in the upcoming Veritex Bank Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Romo used a sponsor exemption to gain entry. The tournament will be staged April 22-25 at Texas Rangers Golf Club in Arlington.

This isn’t the 40-year-old’s first foray into professional golf, having previously competed in the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship on the PGA Tour in 2018. Romo struggled in that event, posting scores of 77 (+5) and 82 (+10) before missing the cut. However, Romo fared significantly better months later at the American Century Celebrity Championship in Lake Tahoe, outwitting three-time defending champion Mark Mulder for the title. Romo won again the following year but was absent from last year’s 70-player field.

Romo, who hails as Dallas’ all-time leader in both touchdowns (248) and career passing yards (34,183), is nearly a scratch golfer, holding a +0.4 handicap, according to Golf Digest. Golden State Warriors All-Star Stephen Curry has also appeared on the Korn Ferry Tour, a development tour for aspiring PGA pros.
