Wichita State hosting Kansas State on Saturday, and WSU managed to get back into the win column after 2 straight losses. K-State led 33-29 at the half, but the Shockers outscored Kansas State by 23 after halftime and scored an 84-65 win in Charles Koch Arena. The win also snapped a five-game losing streak to the Wildcats.
In front of a season-high 8,253 fans, Wichita State finished the game shooting 50.8 percent from the field and 90.9 percent (20-for-22) at the free throw line. On the other side, K-State managed to shoot only 36.2 percent overall, and missed 9-of-15 free throw attempts.
Kansas native Xavier Bell entered the starting lineup for the first time this season and torched the Wildcats to the tune of a game and season-high 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting. Corey Washington recorded his second double-double of the season behind 18 points and 10 rebounds on 6-of-8 shooting and 4-of-4 at the free throw line. Quincy Ballard also finished with a double-double, tallying 10 points and 10 rebounds, while also blocking three shots.
Fresh off Christmas break, Wichita State closes non-conference play at home vs. Friends on Sunday, Dec. 29. The Wildcats host Cincinnati on Monday, Dec. 30th.
