The parents of Vanderbilt baseball players were targeted with racial slurs by fans at the College World Series, according to the school's athletic director.

Vanderbilt AD Candice Storey Lee took to social media to say she was "deeply troubled" by the disturbing episode, and offered support to the apparent victims.

"I am deeply troubled that some of our student-athlete parents were subjected to racist slurs during last night's game," Storey Lee said on Twitter. "This is absolutely unacceptable and disgraceful behavior, and such hateful language has no place anywhere in our society.

"To the family members who were impacted, please know that you have my full support.

"And you absolutely have the wholehearted support of not only Vanderbilt Athletics but all of Commodore Nation."

Storey Lee did not say who had attacked the parents. Vanderbilt was playing against Mississippi State in Game 1 of the best-of-three World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. The Commodores won, 8-2, to put themselves within one game of the national title.

Mississippi State had not responded by Tuesday afternoon, according to the Sun Herald.
