Mariah Carey headlines the 2020 class of inductees into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, with the organization celebrating the singer for her 30 years of penning and performing hits. From co-writing her debut single “Vision of Love” and taking it to the top of the charts to last month’s rise of “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” Carey has been a key part of Pop music throughout, writing or co-writing 18 of her 19 number one songs.
“I can't believe it... The SONGWRITERS HALL OF FAME!!!!,” Mariah exclaimed in a tweet on Thursday morning. “This is truly one of the greatest honors of my career. I'm so proud and humbled to be in the company of such legendary songwriters - both previously inducted as well as the incredible class of 2020!”
Also in the class of 2020 is Pharrell Williams, who is being honor along with Chad Hugo for their work as The Neptunes, helping to write and produce songs for artists across all genres. From “Blurred Lines’ to Britney Spears’ “I’m a Slave 4 U,” the pair have had their hand in some of the biggest songs of the past 20 years.
Williams has scored 14 GRAMMY Awards along the way.
The Isley Brothers, Eurythmics, Steve Miller, Rick Nowels, and Motown’s first Head of A&R William “Mickey” Stevenson round out this year’s group of inductees. They’ll be officially inducted on Thursday, June 11th at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.
