"Wheel of Fortune" contestant Beryl New was already familiar with one of the show’s hosts before appearing on the show recently.
After New correctly guessed the opening puzzle, Pat Sajak began interviewing the episode’s contestants, and she had a tidbit about meeting cohost Vanna White years ago in an airport.
“I met her in the Myrtle Beach airport in I think 2015. She was so kind. She let me take a picture with her,” New said. “She was carrying a pound cake that her friend had made for her, taking it back home. She wouldn’t share the pound cake, but she did share a picture.”
“She’s always great and she’s unfailingly polite to people,” Sajak said of his longtime show partner.
New made it to the final round but didn’t win it all. Before leaving, Sajak asked her to stick around and recalled the part of her story about not getting any of White’s pound cake in the airport.
“Vanna, you need to make up for this,” he said as White brought out slices of cake for herself and New.
The current season of “Wheel of Fortune,” 41, will be Sajak’s last before Ryan Seacrest takes the helm. White recently extended her contract through the 2025-26 season.
