It's getting down to the final stretch as the Top 7 are set to duke it out on American Idol this weekend. The two-hour live episode will appropriately feature Mother's Day themed songs, but contestants are also challenged to showcase their talents singing covers from one of the most renowned bands in the world, Coldplay.

While we couldn't blame American Idol for opting to feature Coldplay as a theme this week, it isn't totally out of the blue. Coldplay dropped their new single "Higher Power" on Thursday night and is set to debut the song on the show. Additionally, frontman Chris Martin will serve as a mentor to help contestants prepare for their Coldplay cover performance.
Billboard dropped the list of songs set to be sung this weekend on American Idol and we're already excited by the prospect. Leading up to the show, let's revisit these Coldplay classics and remember why we fell in love with them in the first place.
Arthur Gunn - In My Place
Gunn will be throwing back to Coldplay's early days as the song comes off their second studio album A Rush of Blood to the Head. It's been a staple at Coldplay concerts throughout the years and won the band a GRAMMY for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
Caleb Kennedy - Violet Hill
Coming off the band's fourth album Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, "Violet Hill" immediately caught our attention as one of the finest songs on one of the band's great albums. The song gave Coldplay two GRAMMY nominations for Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group.
Casey Bishop - Paradise
"Paradise" made history as Coldplay's second number-one single when it was released in 2011. It quickly became one of the band's best-known songs as its upbeat melody serves as an instant mood lift.
Chayce Beckham - Magic
The "Magic" music video serves as an awesome Vaudeville like throwback that perfectly accompanies the downtempo mood of the song. "Magic" is a departure from much of the band's previous work as it's minimalism highlights the simplicity of it creating a warm sound.
Grace Kinstler - Hymn for the Weekend
Perhaps one of Coldplay's most star-studded tracks as it features both Avicii and Beyoncé. The song peaked at number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart as its music video represents the Coldplay video with the highest views at over 1.45 billion.
Hunter Metts - Everglow
The ballad comes off the band's seventh studio album A Head Full of Dreams and features uncredited guest vocals by Martin's ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow. The song is also notable for the spoken word sample of a Muhammad Ali speech from 1977 at the end of the track.
Willie Spence - Yellow
One of the most famous Coldplay songs of all time comes off their debut album Parachutes. It's a staple at Coldplay concerts and easily garners an arena singalong. For all the song's popularity, it only peaked at the 48th position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
