“Out of respect and concern for the people of Los Angeles County, the Rose Bowl Show has been cancelled and the album date has been postponed to 01.31.25,” The Weeknd wrote, announcing the news on IG.
“The city has always been a profound source of inspiration for me, and my thoughts are with everyone impacted during this difficult time,” he continued. “My focus remains on supporting the recovery of these communities and aiding its incredible people as they rebuild.” Signing off, “With love, Abel.”
Hurry Up Tomorrow, the hitmaker’s highly anticipated third act of his album trilogy — which began with 2020’s After Hours and continued with 2022’s Dawn FM — had originally been set to arrive January 24. He had planned to celebrate the release with a “One Night Only” performance the following night at The Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, which is currently being used by city’s fire and police departments and other regional agencies for emergency response efforts.
Sharing Abel’s message graphic, the Live Nation and Rose Bowl Stadium IG accounts posted a separate announcement to fans who purchased tickets for the showcase through Ticketmaster, assuring them they will receive automatic refunds. Also making note, “For tickets purchased from a third-party site, please reach out to your point of purchase.”
The Weeknd’s concert is just the latest LA event to be cancelled due to the fires, which first broke out in Pacific Palisades and have rapidly traveled across the Los Angeles area faster than first responders could put them out. While the GRAMMY award ceremony is still expected to occur February 2 at Crypto.com Arena, a number of pre-GRAMMYs parties have been removed from the calendar, and the Critics Choice Awards have been postponed from January 12 to January 26.
