Movie and pop culture icon Marilyn Monroe's January 1954 elopement/marriage with legendary New York Yankee Joe DiMaggio only lasted 9 months. Fortunately for historians, the photos of their honeymoon in Japan, lasted much longer.

TMZ reports DiMaggio, who at the time had been retired from baseball for a few years, and his baseball buddy Lefty O'Doul, were working on getting baseball into the Japanese public eye.  Seems honeymooning there served more than one purpose.

The 30 honeymoon photos, measuring 7 x 9 or larger in a velvet-bound album, will go to auction Feb. 22.

Heritage Auctions, which has offices in Dallas, NYC, Beverly Hills, Chicago, San Francisco, Hong Kong, London and Palm Beach FLwill handle bidding with a starting price of $5,520. The actual selling price is expected to be much higher.
Speaking of Monroe and DiMaggio, upon her death in 1962, DiMaggio placed a 20-year-order for a half-dozen roses to be put at her tomb, 3 times per week, according to The Vintage News
