'Tis the season to help our community, and a Denton County non-profit is doing just that. Meals on Wheels has a special department called "Senior Paws" that feeds elderly people and their pets.

When staffers from the Denton chapter of longstanding food delivery service Meals on Wheels noticed many of their patrons left food on the floor for their pets, they wanted to do more. Volunteers realized the seniors were sharing their meals with their dogs and cats because they couldn't afford pet food. Knowing how important having a four-legged companion is for homebound recipients, MOWDC created a spinoff program.

Senior Paws was born, and now the group is able to provide hot meals along with animal supplies. The organization needs volunteers and donations this holiday season. They are looking for drivers to make deliveries once a month on Saturdays and a list of necessities are available on their Amazon wish list.

You can provide a tax-deductible monetary gift on their website or drop off unopened dog/cat food of all sorts (smaller packages are easier for the owners to manage), food bowls, collars, toys, treats, kitty litter, gift cards to pet stores or Amazon, etc.
