The incredibly popular television series Yellowstone may soon be coming to an end, but it doesn’t appear the franchise is going away any time soon.
According to Deadline, though co-creator and showrunner Taylor Sheridan, Paramount Global and Paramount Network are moving to end the show in its current form, they are planning a potential franchise extension to continue the Dutton saga with a new show that Matthew McConaughey is in talks to star.

Though it is unclear which of Yellowstone’s actors will join McConaughey in the new series, the show is “expected to include several of the big stars.”
A Paramount Network spokesperson told Deadline, “We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone and we hope that’s the case for a long time to come.
“Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built. Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom we’d love to partner.”
The root of the show’s current problem is Kevin Costner’s desired shooting schedule.
Apparently, Costner, who had originally limited himself to 65 days of shooting on Yellowstone, only wanted to shoot for 50 days for the first part of the current season. However, for the second batch of episodes of the current season, Costner only wanted to spend a week shooting.
Sources say that Paramount Network declined Costner’s most recent proposal, and instead has made the decision to move on to the other show.
