Eric Nadel has been a staple of Texas Rangers broadcasts since he first joined the organization in 1979.

Unfortunately, Nadel will be missing the beginning of what would be his 44th season with the Rangers, as yesterday he revealed ongoing struggles with his mental health.

The team posted a statement from Nadel online, where the 71-year-old stated:

As many of you know, for years I have been an advocate for those with mental health issues. I now find myself dealing with anxiety, insomnia and depression which are currently preventing me from doing the job I love.

So, I regret to say I will not be in the broadcast booth when the season starts.

There has been no timetable given for Nadek’s return.

Per Bally Sports, Matt Hicks and Jared Sandler will be handling the radio broadcasting duties, as they do when Nadel has had off days during past seasons.
