Ages 5 & up: How to spot dangerous toys

As holiday shoppers head out to buy gifts this year, it is important to take several factors into account. Of course, how cool the toys are, if there are good deals on them and, most important of all, if they’re safe.

Every year, the group World Against Toys Causing Harm – or WATCH – releases a list of what it considers the 10 most dangerous toys. That’s one resource for making sure your present isn’t a risky one.

This week on “Something Offbeat”, host Mike Rogers dove deeper into the subject with Oriene Shin of Consumer Reports. She explained how to keep kids safe with the toys we get them over the holidays. Shin and Rogers also reminisced about risky toys from eras past and she answered the age-old question… can you eat Play-doh?

“I think we’re learning that there are certain things that you don't want to do with the kids, whether it’s for giving them oversize darts to throw,” or letting them play with choking hazards like marbles, she said.
