Early reporting by Cards is sign of excitement for 2019 season

JUPITER, Fla. (KMOX) - As St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Shildt pointed out on Thursday, gone are the days of players showing up to spring training ready to get into shape. Now, if they’re not showing up in shape and ready to play they’re behind.

And for the 2019 Cardinals, the entire projected staring lineup was already working together on Thursday – three days prior to the official report date.

“Players are more intentional now about their offseason nutrition, their workouts, how they are going about it,” Shildt says. “My point is, these guys are already working out, so what better place to workout than our complex.”

Cards general manager John Mozeliak agreed that early reporting is common now, but this year has a different feeling to it.

“I think there’s been a lot of players down here for weeks,” Mozeliak says. “So that’s my point of buy-in and enthusiasm.”

Proof of that can be found in a Matt Carpenter tweet:

If you can’t get excited about this 2019 stlouis cardinals baseball team... then we can’t be friends
