For Black History Month, KMOX’s Carol Daniel is talking to people in the St. Louis area who are making Black history today.
For the first installment, Carol talks with Dr. James T. Minor, the first Black chancellor of Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville. He told KMOX that being the first Black person to hold the position gives him a great sense of pride — and a great sense of responsibility.
“When I talk to students who, without personal or intimate knowledge of having that kind of relationship, are very empowered by the fact that someone who looks like them with a background that may be similar occupies the seat. So it has been empowering and every day, there's a reminder of what it means to so many other people,” he said.
Minor talked about his upbringing in Detroit, and how he made his way to California and finally to Edwardsville. Listen to their full interview on Total Information AM:
