Missouri named among worst states for drug problems

(KMOX) - There were more than 88,000 drug overdose deaths in 2020 – up around 27% from the previous year, according to numbers from the CDC. Missouri has been named one of the top states in the U.S. for drug problems last year.

The latest report from WalletHub found the Show Me State was No. 3 on its study of "Highest Drug Use by State." Only D.C. and West Virginia scored higher.

The state ranked No. 1 overall in the "Law Enforcement" category, which took into account the number of drug arrests per capita, drug-related arrested on college campuses and other drug laws and policies. Missouri was also No. 12 for the "Drug Health Issues & Rehab" and No. 25 in the "Drug Use & Addiction" categories.

Illinois faired much better in the study, coming in at No. 32 overall.

28th – Substance Abuse Treatment Facilities per 100,000 People (Age 12+) Using Illicit Drugs
22nd – Share of Teenagers Who Tried Marijuana Before Age 13

4. Colorado
5. New Mexico
6. Nevada
7. Delaware
8. Michigan
9. Indiana
10. Kentucky
