The Sedgwick County Commission voted 4-1 to defer indefinitely a permit for a proposed outdoor gun range and RV campground west of Mount Hope.
The commission originally heard the proposal about the site at 295th Street West and K-96 back on May 4. Nearly 92 percent of residents in the protest area were against the plan.
Concerns were raised about potential use of lead ammunition and its effects on the local water supply. Chairman David Dennis says the applicant must provide written documentation from federal, state and other authorities that all environmental concerns and permits have been complied with, along with an environmental impact statement for this area.
